UE 5.4 Update
been a long time since i've updated this one but i think it's feasible to finish it in my lifetime tho. it's still a simple game but the amount of work and tweaks is huge so i try to cut corners and re-use the assets from other sci-fi stuff i made over the years. the demo level should have most of the features i had in mind, including the boss fight which is still prone to changes but it works.
the main ''plot'' is simple; you start in the hangar where the player might upgrade or change the ship and progress to a next mission. right now that part is completely temporary and the load/save system is missing.
the controls are also simple; i'm trying to make it mouse-only ( controller support on the way )
to move the ship move the mouse left or right, shoot the laser by holding the LMB and use the RMB to activate the shield. Middle mouse to launch a megabomb. press ''P'' or ''Esc'' to abort the mission ( the ''Options'' menu is WIP )
music and sfx are temporary. i've been toying with metasound for a bit and most of the of sci-fi sounds could be fun to do procedurally . *temp* music by Kick Puncher and Carpenter Brut with a dash of Mirror's Edge.
some tips; lasers and shields will drain when in use, they will start re-charging once the key is released or the pickup item boosts them. health can be charged only by the pickups. the HUD is still kinda clumsy so i might tinker with that later. the asteroids can be made to explode by lasering them until they turn green. the megabombs are a late addition so i'm still figuring out the best way to use them.
feel free to try it out and shoot me back some feedback, it works fine on my gaming laptop but i haven't tried it on anything else so far.
